Today we are speaking to Dan Hydes from Ignite Data. Ignite Data design and deliver innovative research solutions for the pharmaceutical industry and healthcare organisations, improving the development and assessment of new treatments...

Morning, Dan. To start with, what’s exciting you right now?

I think being part of innovative change in the pharmaceutical space, particularly using technology to better recruit patients into studies, is amazing as the end result is that sick people get the treatments they need faster.

If money was no object, what would you do all day?

If I had more free time I’d step back and spend longer looking at the latest innovations in this space and strategies to take our business global. At the moment, I’m too busy being focussed on operational matters!

What is the worst/most embarrassing thing you have done :-)?

I thought I’d book a last minute holiday for my family so we could all get some well-deserved rest in the sun. But in my haste the dates of the flights and the accommodation I booked were slightly different… oops. Now I remember why we used to use travel agents.

Is there anything that no one here knows about you? What is it?

I play drums in a band.

Rock’n’roll! How long have you been in a band and where do you play?

I’ve always been in a band, we just do it for a laugh but it’s a great way to unwind, but we’re not expecting to have EMI on the phone any time soon! My interests are mainly music and fitness.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

An architect for some reason! I like planning things out, but at some point must have decided the studying took too long.

Favourite thing about GROW?

The community and making friends as well as meeting other contacts who are helpful for growing our business, for example Sean Hackemann of SME WEB Accountants. Sean has now become our Finance Director.

In your opinion, what is the most valuable aspect of co-working?

Meeting new people has value and inspires different ideas for the business. It’s a productive environment and space; you’re not locked in a room by yourself, you can walk away from your desk, have a chat, get away.

Co-working at GROW has been very useful for us and perfect the stage of the business when we came here, so it’s great that we’re growing but sad we’ve now outgrown GROW and have to move offices.

We’ll be back and we’ll still continue to be part of the GROW community.

We’re sorry to lose you but honoured to have been part of your start-up journey and see you move on to the next stage. That’s what we’re here for –  and now you’re one of our GROW alumni! Good luck Ignite Data!
